Stream: omop + fhir
Topic: Internationalization of CDMH IG?
Mareike Przysucha (Jun 15 2021 at 07:50):
Hello everyone,
in Germany, we are currently working on a project in which I write my PhD. It contains a mapping from FHIR to OMOP (and probably vice versa) for wound related data. I just had a look at the Implementation guide May referenced in another stream (https://build.fhir.org/ig/HL7/cdmh/index.html), but it seems to be quite US-specific. Therefore my question: If it is intended to be US-specific, is there any intention to lift it to an international basis? I ask because the mappings contain several extensions we don't have in Germany, which limits its applicability for us.
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Grahame Grieve (Jun 15 2021 at 08:32):
which extensions?
Mareike Przysucha (Jun 15 2021 at 08:36):
sorry, my fault. Not extensions, but profiles.
Mareike Przysucha (Jun 15 2021 at 08:39):
but for example in Germany "race" and "ethnicity" are forebidden, thus the extensions used in us-core are not allowed and are therefore not mapped.
Ward Weistra (Jun 15 2021 at 14:56):
@Mareike Przysucha I think CDMH was indeed intended to map to US Core specifically. But there are a bunch of OMOP-FHIR mappings out there and there are more planned still...
Is yours the same as the MIRACUM one or should it be added to the list?
Mareike Przysucha (Jun 15 2021 at 16:42):
Thank you, @Ward Weistra. It is a new project called ZIEL (goal in English), which is an acronym for "reduced time to healing via more evidence through augmented intelligence - in German ZIEL makes more sense...
Mareike Przysucha (Jun 15 2021 at 16:43):
Should I add it to the other stream?
Grahame Grieve (Jun 15 2021 at 21:54):
"race" and "ethnicity" are forebidden
But that doesn't mean you can't use the mappings generally, just not those ones, since the data will never exist in your source FHIR content anyway?
Mareike Przysucha (Jun 16 2021 at 06:53):
True. We are just at the beginning right now and I look around for what might be relevant for us. The CDMH IG is definitely on that list. I was just wondering...

Yes please! With any public documentation/status you can share.
Mareike Przysucha (Oct 22 2021 at 13:13):
Hey everyone.
I have a question to the CDMH IG, which might also be interesting for the new collaboration.
On the page http://hl7.org/fhir/us/cdmh/2019May/profiles.html, it says that the field discharge_to_concept_id
should be filled with the content of Encounter.location.location.type
. But should it not better be hospitalization.dischargeDisposition
?
If I understand correctly, location
is where the patient has been, and hospitalization.dischargeDisposition
where the patient shall be discharged to. The description for discharge_to_concept_id
seems to be more applicable to the latter.
Do I see that correctly, or am I mistaken? In the latter case, can someone explain to me what I get wrong?
Thank you in advance for your help.
