On my iPhone, scanning of SHC with the camera says QR Code Detected but No usable data found.
Which iPhone apps will show just the plain shc:... string?

I don't have access to an iPhone, but have you tried a dedicated QR scanner app? (I've used a dozen on Android without issues.)

Yes, the iOS camera app doesn't know anything about shc:/..., so that's what it will say.
