In RC2 Patient (as other resources) derives directly from the base specification and no longer from IPS - this means that the current RC2 specs require only an identifier for a patient, any other demographic is not even Must Support , is that OK?

not being derived from IPS is hopefully temporary. there are some changes underway in IPS to relax some of the constraints (e.g. MS on gender). from the SVC view, we want to keep identity binding as weak as possible hence the current requirement only on patient.identifier. What will happen here is still evolving a bit in RC2.
