Topic: Epic support!

Thanks @Cooper Thompson for your help in putting this together! https://fhir.epic.com/Resources/file/covidsmartschedulinglinks is awesome to see.

Hey @Josh Mandel will there be an opportunity to run through different types of Availability-focused use cases at the Connectathon? Esp “categorical” availability scans (eg looking across multiple endpoints to piece together current availability at multiple locations)?
This “categorical” availability seems to be a pressing need systemically and is causing a bit of thrash with different amateur/volunteer services springing up to manually check for availability.
Thanks,
Henry

Josh Mandel (Apr 03 2021 at 00:48):
Yeah, this would be a great thing for folks to try out!

(@Nick Robison is building an aggregator, so if you wanted to focus specifically on the data analysis you could use output from his server as a starting point -- or you can build a client to query/aggregate the Slot Providers directly.)
Henry Wei (Apr 03 2021 at 00:52):
Thanks @Josh Mandel .
It could be useful if, say, a planetary-scale Search engine were to crawl periodically for general availability (or receive it) and display it to search users to help relieve the server load on the end-servers. Hypothetically, that is.

Would love to dig into this more. I've been thinking around this in a couple of ways but would love to chat more about potential use cases. My current focus has been on supporting end user applications (e.g. find all the available slots within 50 miles of me for the next 24 hours). The repo is here: https://github.com/nickrobison-usds/vaccine-scheduler. Pretty early stage at this point, but has basic functionality.

FWIW, this is what I’ve been doing with US Digital Response with the State of NJ (https://covid19.no.gov/finder) and now with other states. We just have no providers using this standard, so it’s mainly been a mix of provider-specific APIs and scraping.
