Hi!

I am just following up on today's FHIR Africa Call.

Here are links to my SDC implementation that we are using as the basis for Ejo in Rwanda.

I am ready to continue the conversation here.

Regarding our discussion about IG and profiling, here is a link to the FHIR profiling meetup https://www.meetup.com/HealthDev/

Hi Everyone, I took some notes during the last FHIR Africa call. Feel free to add or suggest changes.

FHIR event colocated at the yearly OpenHIE event:
-Few topics were proposed for the OpenHIE annual event (FHIR-Africa community, projects, peer support activities, capacity building events, etc.).
-The google docs for the OpenHIE event later in 2021 will be shared later after additional reviews. @Chris Seebregts
-Suggestion to consider expanding the October event and include SNOMED CT or/and other terminology systems. @Dr Michael Bainbridge

Other discussions
-OpenHIE is working on a FHIR maturity level (Naive, Aware, Native)
-Data ownership and control discussion need to be considered sometime down the line.
-An Asia Pacific digital health implementation guide was recently published.
-The WHO is also working on (and may have published ANC) smart guidelines.
-Consider restricting scope by building specific profiles eg. US core or IPS.

Hi @Emeka Chukwu , @Hamish MacDonald , @Ilya Beda , @Grahame Grieve and All. I have drafted a new proposal doc: OpenHIE Community Meeting - FHIR Africa (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1D0iYT6Eb_nfkYOyfoT0PIqNrXX5JgNgO0sQ7fXGUbqk/edit?usp=sharing) and look forward to discussing further during our FHIR Africa Call on 2 Aug.

Hi @Emeka Chukwu, @Ilya Beda, @Dr Michael Bainbridge and All, as discussed yesterday, we are planning to propose a topic to the OpenHIE Virtual Community meeting from 5-8 October (https://ohie.org/ohie21/) for consideration by the community for discussion during the meeting unconferencing session. The topic we have suggested is: “Advancing and promoting the use of FHIR and SNoMED in Africa”. Please review this topic title and suggest any changes or alternatives. Other topics can be viewed on the Miro Board associated with this event: (https://metroretro.io/board/LBYT7T83VLNE). Thanks

Hi All. Does anyone on this chat group know of any African training organisations offering HL7 training courses? Thanks

Hi Emeka Chukwu, Ilya Beda, Dr Michael Bainbridge and All, as discussed yesterday...

Thank you for the notes, @Chris Seebregts Unfortunately I could not make it. Should also let folk know that @Dr Michael Bainbridge was a couple of days ago hit badly by an e-bike that ran a red light in Sydney. He will be okay, but is laid up for a while with multiple fractures.

Thanks @Hamish MacDonald . Sorry to read of this. Best wishes to @Dr Michael Bainbridge for a speedy recovery.

Hi All, We have been given a one hour unconferencing session during the OpenHIE meeting on 6 October from 10-11am USA Eastern time (UTC -4:00 hours). The session is titled: ”How FHIR can help scale implementation” (see: https://ohie21.sched.com/event/lglI/how-fhir-can-help-scale-implementation?iframe=no). Apologies to members of the group from Eastern time zones. Unfortunately, this is the earliest time that was available to us. The moderators are myself, Daniel Futerman and Derek Ritz. The purpose of the meeting is to engage the community and build interest in the topic. For those who can participate, there is no need for presentations but we should have questions prepared to stimulate discussion. I suggest that we begin with a brief description of the FHIR Africa community, what it is and what we hope to achieve as well as some of the goals we have spoken of, eg building capacity and infrastructure to promote the adoption and use of FHIR in an African context; a possible FHIR Africa core etc. Please send any ideas to the list. I suggest we also use the group meeting on 4 Oct to agree further question. Thanks!

A bunch of us are waiting now in the zoom lobby, (8:07pm New Zealand time), and it says "waiting for host"

It seems Emeka hasn't started the call. Daniel and I are also waiting in the lobby. I can set up a separate Zoom link, quickly and share on this chat?

Hi All, it seems the FHIR Africa Call link we have been using isn't activated today. If anyone wants to speak on the FHIR Africa call, I have opened a Zoom link at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89996893337?pwd=cjhaZ0VFbVlVd3RZRWxVRm9UQXpWUT09. Thanks, Chris

@Emeka Chukwu @Ilya Beda @Olivier Karasira @Hamish MacDonald Do you perhaps have any contacts who are working on FHIR in Africa and interested in joining a webinar organised by the South African Health Informatics Association in partnership with HL7? We have a few South Africans but would like a representative from other countries in Africa. If you know of anyone, please let me know. Thanks

Hi @Emeka Chukwu. Thanks for the reply. Could you make me a co-host of the Zoom call so I can initiate future calls? Thanks

@Chris Seebregts I am not able to make you host on the zoom call as I was only made a temporary co-host.

hI all, i listened to the webinar this morning from my cst time here in Texas. I think the concept of HL7 Africa is a great idea. However, we need to start gradually. What do i mean? How many hospitals in Africa even have EHR?? I think thats where to start....

Hi - if anyone from FHIR Africa is interested in meeting this morning, I have opened a Zoom link at: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86781986249?pwd=WVZ5S0EzZ0gwNmpZdkpVOTJIVzQvdz09

Hi @Chris Seebregts

I have another meeting today, so I can't join.
I've checked and I didn't find any local community pages on https://confluence.hl7.org/
It is more about IG for some specific cases.

But it doesn't mean that we can't create one. Then this page could be transformed to Africa-IG, or something like this.

Hi Ilya, thanks for the reply and follow up. This seems like a good idea. I have applied for an account on the HL7 Confluence site and will review this possibility and get back to you.

is there a meeting invite or schedule I could track? would be interested in listening to the conversations

view this post on Zulip Grahame Grieve (Dec 07 2021 at 05:02):

sigh. this has lapsed and it's partly my fault. I'd like to get the monthly calls going again. We'd been doing the first monday of the month (which was this week, I see), at 5am UTC. Does that time still suit or is there a better time? It's morning in Africa, late afternoon in Aus/NZ, and kind of inconvenient for Carl...

view this post on Zulip Carl Leitner (Dec 07 2021 at 15:43):

I can adjust to whatever works for others.

view this post on Zulip Chris Seebregts (Dec 16 2021 at 20:07):

Hi @Carl Leitner and @Grahame Grieve , apologies I missed your earlier post. Interest in the FHIR Africa stream has waned but @Ilya Beda, @Daniel Futerman and myself have continued to meet at 7am UTC on the first Monday of the month. We also hosted a talk during the OpenHIE 2021 community meeting (https://ohie.org/ohie21/). Carl and Grahame, it would be great to have you join us again and adjust to a time that is more convenient for all. Perhaps an earlier time (4am UTC?) that would be late evening in US Eastern time. Or early morning in Australia? It would be great to encourage others to join us and discuss new initiatives such as the capacity building work we are trying to support with HL7. Perhaps link to some of the work Carl is doing with WHO? Thanks, Chris

I am working Mid-Atlantic hours in general so 11am CET plus or minus is easy enough. Can also do evenings US Eastern but need some.heads up
