Also sharing the Chicago Grocers Map that we're using in our screening app. I'll be converting this into a food desert map this week, and we have proximity analysis working to determine if the Patient is within a certain distance of a grocery store.

(Had to size down the image under 1MB to share on Zulip. I can make the original full-resolution image available to anybody who needs it.)

Update: Grocers map is online.

Step 1. Geocode the grocers file into a data layer here. Be sure to specify a heatmap in the map options.

Step 2. Use the sidebar and navigation tabs to navigate to Food Insecurity > Grocers Map.

Please ignore the lorem ipsum. WIll be putting the lists and tasks and summary info there. Am also cleaning things up and streamlining workflow as I implement the IG.

Thanks @Abigail Watson . It would also be nice to have a map of all food pantries or places that give food to people who might not be able to afford going to the grocery store. https://www.auntbertha.com/ is a nice one to look at. You can type in your zip code and it gives you a list of all social services near you. Don't know if anyone at GRAVITY is thinking about the use case when a patient answers a questionnaire indicating a food need that they can be presented with all food pantries near them.

Hi Debi. @Debi Willis this is a great use case we can present back our Executive Committee and Strategic Advisory Committee. Right now we are just focused on the three use cases we have published on the Gravity Confluence page and willl need to consider new ones to tackle next year.

Seems fairly relevant to the Food Insecurity Questionnaire and the Screening App. Maybe it's something to include in the connectathon's report-out.
I'd propose the following items right now:

a) that the Implementation Guide should be updated to include the Location resource endpoints
b) the SDOHCC_Questionnaire_HungerVitalSign_1_Example_1 artifact should be updated to include questions regarding use of local food banks or pantries.
c) the SDOHCC_QuestionnaireResponse_Hunger_Vital_Sign_Screening_Example_1 artifact be updated to include questions regarding the use of local foodbanks, and the distance to the nearest grocery store.

There was a question in the Gravity channel about the difference between Food Pantries and Food Deserts. Here is an early prototype rendering of the food desert map that we'll be implementing this weekend / next week. As you can see, it's the inverse of the Grocer's Map.

This is great @Abigail Watson From where are you pulling the Food Patry and Food Desert daya in the respective maps?

City of Chicago Data Portal - The last grocers census was in 2013, so this is admittedly a few years out of date. So, for this to fully ramp up, any rollout will require some minimal staffing of GIS analysts to comb through the current phonebooks and update the lists. But we basically have the software to manage a team to do that workflow. It's basically a Provider Directory, where the providers are grocery stores.

@Ankit Agarwal I don't know where @Abigail Watson is pulling her Food Desert data from, but as an FYI for you, the USDA has a Food Desert map you can access here: https://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/food-access-research-atlas/go-to-the-atlas.aspx
