Stream: Covid-19 Response
Topic: Communication of at home Covid 19 test results
Gay Dolin (Feb 17 2021 at 18:22):
Has there been FHIR work done on the communication of at home Covid 19 test results? Looking at the companies that provide these tests, they seem to provide web interfaces with communication of results with the patient. Is there a use case/need for standardized communication from these companies direct to EHRs (handled appropriately) should a patient provide the needed permission? Would EHRs even be willing to manage such incoming messages/data?

@David Pyke Is the SANER IG applicable at all to communicating results from at home Covid testing?
David Pyke (Feb 18 2021 at 20:07):
Not really, no. It's designed for situational awareness of provider resources
Kevin Mayfield (Feb 19 2021 at 08:55):
Is this not the same use case as 'unsolicited-observations' (HL7v2 ORU_R01)? I am aware of FHIR Message equivalents being used.

Thanks Kevin

HHS had an At-Home Diagnostics Testing DesignAThon in November.
