On the topic of provenance, the IPS IG refers to the provenance section of the CDA IPS IG. The latter includes the following:

Allow optional section level author, provenance type, verifier, and informant identification, for IPS source systems that can support this.

How is this implemented in the FHIR IG? I did not spot any further discussion or relevant parts in the Composition profile in the FHIR IG.

Hi @Morten Ernebjerg , sorry for the late reply.
in general provenance information are supposed to be managed by using Provenance .
This part has not been however developed in detail as indicated also in the guide see http://hl7.org/fhir/uv/ips/knownIssues.html#future-development.

You can find some possible examples of usage of the provenance for the IPS here “International Patient Summary: Use Cases

For document authors and attesters there are specific composition elements ; as well as for section authors.. But since there is no context-conduction these participations should be documented at the resource level as well (e.g the asserter for the allergies).
But as I wrote this provenance part has to be further discussed...

Thanks for the background @Giorgio Cangioli, the use case wiki page looks very interesting!
