Can someone help me understand the difference between Member Number and Unique Member number?

The definitions are exactly the same in the structureDefinition. @Amol Vyas @Pat Taylor

@Jason Teeple Member Number is the number payers assign for a contract; it may be different for various lines of business; ie. PPO vs HMO. Unique Member Number is a mastered identifier across all lines of business we're updating the value set. @Amol Vyas

@Pat Taylor looking at the cardinality of Unique Member Identifier, its 0..* I understand optional, though wondering when there would be more than one unique member ID for an enrollee, if I am tracking the definition properly. Thanks -

@Bryan Briegel ideally, there is only one unique member ID for an enrollee. However, there may be situations which the unique member ID was assigned in error, meaning an ID identified two people and needed to be split or vice versa; i.e., two IDs are really one person. the * accommodates those situations. @Amol Vyas @Corey Spears @Mark Roberts
