Question on the implementation of the MedicationKnowledge.code attribute - the description for this attribute lists several examples of standard medication code types (RxNorm, SNOMED, etc.), but the binding mentions that this code SHALL be taken from the list of RxNorm codes. If we are not able to use RxNorm as a medication code, are we required to use the values specified in the binding?

You're expected to map to them, yes. You're free to send your own codes as well.

Mapping from NDC->RxNorm is unambiguous and straightforward, so if you can get to NDC it is easy to map to RxNorm.
