Stream: nordics
Topic: Nordics on FHIR - Next call monday 2021-10-25 14:00 CET
Espen Stranger Seland (Oct 21 2021 at 07:08):
Topic: NPU (Nomenclature for Properties and Units) and FHIR
Running topics: IPA, IPS, terminology services
Jens Villadsen (Oct 22 2021 at 08:54):
NPU is roughly 29000 codes and can be downloaded at https://www.npu-terminology.org/npu-database/ or https://www.labterm.dk/download/Index1 and looks easily translated to FHIR codesystems and valuesets. What is of greater importance is probably to start the dialogue with the custodian organization behind NPU: https://www.npu-terminology.org/contact-us/
Jens Villadsen (Oct 27 2021 at 19:37):
FYI @Øyvind Aassve / @Thomas Tveit Rosenlund / @Espen Stranger Seland if we are to suggest eg. NPU or ICPC as a maintaned code system in HL7, I think the process is to submit a request found at https://confluence.hl7.org/display/TA/Request+Content+in+External+Terminologies
Jens Villadsen (Oct 27 2021 at 19:38):
(If I can convince the rest of the affiliate in DK, I'll go ahead with ICPC as I have already draftet the danish supplement at https://github.com/hl7dk/dk-core/blob/feature/icpc-supplement/input/resources/icpc2e-dk.xml )
Øyvind Aassve (Oct 27 2021 at 19:53):
Sounds good @Jens Villadsen - sorry I missed the last half of the call last meeting. What is the consequence of suggesting this as an HL7 maintained code system - that is what is the difference from us just defiing a unique URL and handling this ourselves? I can understand that NPU has not been registered earlier as the use is mainly Scandinavian, but I thought ICPC had broader adoption .....
Rob Hausam (Oct 27 2021 at 20:13):
@Jens Villadsen Do you want HL7 to maintain the code system content (which seems unlikely), or are you suggesting that it would be good for HL7 to host a "convenience copy" (in THO)?
Jens Villadsen (Oct 27 2021 at 21:22):

-that part
Jens Villadsen (Oct 27 2021 at 21:25):
I mean - why wouldn't HL7 be interested in hosting a convenience copy of it? Ain't HL7 supposed to be a standard organization that aims to make IT easier across the healthcare domain?
Jens Villadsen (Oct 27 2021 at 21:26):
and ICPC even contains mapping tables to ICD-10 - (https://browser.icpc-3.info/) - it would make a lot of sense to also have that present in ConceptMaps and so on
Espen Stranger Seland (Oct 28 2021 at 08:52):
@Jens Villadsen No need, we have full control of the use and maintainance of NPU and the Nordic versions, so we don't meed to involve HL7. Publishing it as a FHIR CodeSystem/setting up a terminology server is another matter, of course.
Jens Villadsen (Oct 28 2021 at 09:55):
@Espen Stranger Seland for NPU I fully agree with you. For ICPC its probably another mattter
Espen Stranger Seland (Nov 02 2021 at 13:14):
Some high level descriptions about publishing code systems etc.:

So let's make that the question then? If the goal is to reach higher adoption of the terminology, making it available as FHIR Terminology resources should be a natural aim. It shouldn't require a huge amount of resources either - the terminology service as such could be pretty lightweight for starters. Doable?
Jens Villadsen (Nov 12 2021 at 13:14):
@Petter Wolff - certainly doable
Jens Villadsen (Nov 12 2021 at 13:15):
@Daniel Karlsson wouldn't you agree?
Jens Villadsen (Nov 12 2021 at 20:54):
OK - I have parsed the NPU into a codesystem now ... should I throw it at a term server or just add it to an IG for now?
Rob Hausam (Nov 13 2021 at 00:48):
Or both?
Jens Villadsen (Nov 13 2021 at 07:28):
Or both ofc

Should anyone reverse engineer that site to conceptmaps?
Espen Stranger Seland (Nov 17 2021 at 07:07):
There would be official mapping tables to make it simpler. We use ICPC-2 in Norway, so I don't think we have tables for ICPC-3.
