Hello C-CDA experts, I had a question on why "2131-1 Other Race" is excluded from the Race Category valueset (2.16.840.1.113883.3.2074.1.1.3). If Other Race is documented on the EHR side, should the racecode element be represented using nullFlavor (OTH) & Other Race included using sdtc:raceCode?

Howdy - check the historical ETT google groups, good information is still there! https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/edge-test-tool/Race$20Code$20nullflavor|sort:date/edge-test-tool/XOst2RWpIFc/tR0bJsK-BAAJ
Brett Marquard (Aug 06 2020 at 00:21):
current recommendation is to use nullFlavor = 'UNK'

Just a follow-up on that... is that because (at least from someone's POV) that "Other Race" is defunct, because a single race would be in one of those 5 top level options, and if someone is multi-racial, we can put more than one race code on a chart now, so, it should be shown that way?
I think at one time you could only put one race code on a person, and that is possibly the reason why "other race" was included? But, now with multiple races possible, that isn't necessary?
Just trying to decipher why there is even an "other race", if it is currently (from HL7 or other standards) not considered a "proper code".
On your link you shared Brett, that seems specifically talking about for a "don't know" situation, not "other race", unless I misread the page wrong?

@Robert McClure , @Matt Rahn or @Nagesh Bashyam do you remember the policy for excluding 'other'?
Brett Marquard (Aug 13 2020 at 17:01):
I am blanking...
Robert McClure (Aug 17 2020 at 23:37):
Also wondering why "other race" is not allowed. Even the current census supports recording "Other race" @Matt Rahn
