In subscription there is an end element to denote when a subscription ends - this is of type instant.

There is no "start" time, so I guess that means that all active subscriptions have immediate effect and you cannot create subscriptions to become active in the future?

Has any thought been give as defining an active period for a subscription and making this of type Period?

that's part a wider vexed question about the fact that subscriptions are inherently active. I haven't thought about but I think it's a valid thing. But 'active' is a tricky concept that we haven't really tracked properly. @Lloyd McKenzie has worflow talked about this ?
