The only issue I see with deleting now once assessed is while currently developing an update to our system with the acknowledgements or codes I am finding it helpful to receive more than once to fix bugs in my update process.

That's definitely a good point, we rely on that for debugging and development too! What about a flag, available on the development server (which is what we're using) that says "please also give me previously sent messages"
