Topic: OO on FHIR
John David Larkin Nolen (Dec 20 2021 at 19:32):
FHIR-I folks...OO is chatting about how to handle multiple specimens/single observation for FHIR-34002 (https://jira.hl7.org/browse/FHIR-34002) tomorrow during the OO on FHIR call (1PM CT). Please join if interested...
Grahame Grieve (Dec 20 2021 at 20:02):
I'll be asleep. But I think it's not as simple as multiple specimens - I think OO should define a SpecimenGroup resource, and add it as a choice to the specimen reference - this is backwards compatible and solves the problem, and also allows for grouping semantics, since in most cases, the multiple specimens are grouped in some way (shared container, or shared identifier, or shared handling)
Rob Hausam (Dec 21 2021 at 14:26):
I think those "shared" aspects don't actually fit with the examples that we've come up for this. So I don't know if that will actually work or satisfy the need for what we expect to get from v2 messages. But we can discuss on the call.
Grahame Grieve (Dec 21 2021 at 19:16):
how does it not fit? If you're saying that they don't make use of those shared aspects, sure, they may not, but that doesn't mean it's not a solution for the problem anyway. since it's a way to solve the problem without breaking anything normative
