Here's the Patient Empowerment WG slide from today's intro. Links and info:

The Patient Empowerment Work Group promotes and amplifies the viewpoint of patients and their caregivers in HL7’s standards work, in support of the HL7 mission.

  • Corrections to Errors in the Record (Debi Willis, Abigail Watson)
  • Patient-Contributed Data (Jan Oldenburg, Maria D Moen)
  • Care Planning (Lisa Nelson) (engaging with Care Plan WG)
  • Consents (John Moehrke) (Mikael Rinnetmäki) (engaging with CBCP WG)

The three founding co-chairs are @Virginia Lorenzi @Debi Willis and me. Virginia is the only one of us with extensive HL7 experience so we'll especially welcome newcomers who can help us do the right thing and do it right!

Re our "Corrections to Errors in the Record" -

  1. @Morgan Gleason posted her favorite last night -
    Morgan Gleason said:

Lloyd McKenzie Here is a sample of a record correction. I used the one from my favorite error but changed the personal details https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QDBIHmzJS7SFFUhh2T-Is6iB9QYqDFi_z1OTX9h4OtU/edit?usp=sharing

Downthread she said that they responded by telling her "If it's in the EMR, you must have said it"! And that brings us to the next comment:

  1. Our Priorities page makes an important scope statement:

As always in HL7 this is not about the sociological processes, it's about the data elements required to enable a corrections workflow.

IOW, people will still need to argue sometimes. But we're working to create the infrastructure so that once they decide a correction is needed, the workflow is ready to support it.
