Patient Empowerment has a web meeting/call every Thursday at 1PM Eastern. Start the new year off right and join tomorrow. Agenda and call info here: https://confluence.hl7.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=66938279

Bumping this up to the top - the Patient Empowerment WG call is 50 minutes from now!

@Virginia Lorenzi For future Thursday calls let's make a point of opening all the docs etc in advance, so we're ready at 12:59 pm so we don't waste 15 people's time for 10-15 minutes so our meetings get a reputation for being a good use of time.

@Virginia Lorenzi Also, for future Thursday calls let's switch to a different call tool like GoToMeeting that most other HL7 groups are using. The tool we used today doesn't let participants see content, attendees and messages at the same time and this is very distracting and not very productive.

unless i'm mistaken, most groups are using Freeconferencecall.
I'm not saying it is the best...

I believe I did see contents, attendees, and messages at the same time... Not all participants and messages at the same time as I was on a 13" laptop, I guess a larger screen would accommodate even more of the content.
Still, also not saying FreeConnferenceCall is the best tool ever.

freeconferencecall is what HL7 supports and they provide. Some wg still use a members personal/work based tools (e.g. gotomeeting).

Hmmmmm! I'm involved in 7 other HL7 Da Vinci work groups and I believe (?) they all use GTM. Or, if they aren't, whatever they are using it enables me to see all the aspects of the meeting simultaneously. I will pay attention over the next week or so of meetings and report back.

Thanks Mikael. I was using a windows laptop with a very large and separate Samsung screen and I couldn't get my screen to show each segment separately. I'm typically on 15 - 25 of these types of calls per week, and I've never experienced this limitation before. However, I'm probably using the industry gold standard GTM for most of those calls. What OS were you running on to get each segment to display separately without overlap?

FreeConCall is a couple of standard deviations worse than the industry norm....

view this post on Zulip Bart Carlson (Jan 02 2020 at 21:27):

Thanks John...That would definitely explain why the heavy use of GTM in the Da Vinci WGs.

At one point with their Linux client, FCC windows started drifting across my desktop and I had to "catch" them periodically.

not surprising that Da Vinci has the money available

Yeahbut that's orthogonal to "Our org has decided to use..."

I'd look at FCC as a starting point; there's no deep honor in sticking to it if it doesn't work for you.

view this post on Zulip Dave deBronkart (Jan 02 2020 at 23:26):

Personally I'd favor any tool that doesn't allow porn-named gate-crashers to show up, as one did (repeatedly) for us today.

However I imagine that's a function of the meeting being configured as (a) anyone can drop in, or (b) invite only, or (c) single-sign-on via some list. Ours was configured as wide-open, and I imagine GTM could be, too.

My impression is that WG co-chair @Virginia Lorenzi 's impression  is that we're SUPPOSED to use FCC (FreeConferenceCall). If in fact there's no policy, then woohoo, let's ditch it and go back to whatever worked. Who knows the answer to that one?

view this post on Zulip Lloyd McKenzie (Jan 03 2020 at 16:32):

Policy is: FCC is the preferred tool, but not (yet) mandated. And so long as we have Linux and other users who have challenges with it, FCC is unlikely to be mandated. The gate crasher is a known issue on many of our calls. Gotomeeting has an ability to 'lock' the meeting which keeps people from joining - so you can punt an offending user and not let them back in. We typically don't bother doing that unless the offending person is actually disrupting the call - which has happened occasionally, either by repeatedly playing hold music or by actually broadcasting porn audio. If they're just lurking, the best strategy seems to be to ignore them and not record them as present in the minutes. (They sometimes mascarade as well-known HL7 personalities, so It's always best to make sure that a name present on the web meeting is in fact a real person.)

I usually am able to see all those things when I am not the host but couldn't yesterday. I wonder if its me doing something wrong. I am just trying to do the corporate thing. I hear people saying did you switch to freeconferencecall.com yet in leadership meetings. A way to have a standard tool. I think we could ask the tooling work group and Wayne. Besides that issue - Bart - thank you so much for joining us yesterday - welcome!
