@Grahame Grieve @Rien Wertheim anyone - should we have a stream here, or somewhere else, for topics related to spreading public awareness of FHIR? The time is soon approaching when we should be thinking about that.

In particular, where can I learn about the plans for FHIR presence at Health Datapalooza next week in DC? I'll be there (on my own, without portfolio)

view this post on Zulip Grahame Grieve (Mar 20 2019 at 19:59):

I guess this is the stream

I don't know who else in the community is going to Health Datapalooza

For future reference I've just posted on my own blog a summary of my ten part FHIR series on Tincture.

I feel like I've asked this six times but searching this chat server yields nothing so I'll ask here.

Is there somewhere - on a FHIR site or in some media article - an introduction to FHIR for newbies, especially non-technical? If not, please SOMEbody help me write one. (I'm motivated because I keep needing to refer to it, for other things I'm writing.)

I don't mean @David Hay 's great webinar - I mean something far more concise (but still substantial), particularly featuring explicit, specific things that can be done today because FHIR exists, as well as future direction.

There's this - it's semi-non-technical? http://build.fhir.org/summary.html

Well there is this: http://www.hl7.org/fhir/overview-clinical.html but I
think you are looking for something else.. Also these are nice because they have example scenarios: http://www.hl7.org/fhir/integrated-examples.html, http://www.hl7.org/fhir/usecases.html, and http://www.hl7.org/fhir/resourceguide.html

I've just posted about the FHIR standard on the blog of SolutionReach, a client for whom I do occasional writing. It's very very non-technical, because they're not at all a technical audience. Feedback?? Is it clear and accurate, vs simple and wrong?

FHIR on Fire: A New Standard to Make Patient Data More Mobile

I'm not sure that this line is entirely accurate:

To me the clear picture starting to emerge is one where some years from now it will be NORMAL to have all your health data in one place,

It may be more accurate to say that it will be accessible from one place in a useable format (though I may be splitting technical hairs)

That's a really useful distinction - glad I asked for feedback. Provocative thought.

I will (or you could!) add that as a comment. They never get comments - I'm sure they'd love it. Game on?

Dave, Great article for the rest of world!

1/2 way through. Love it. As far as the regs go, the regs with that requirement is not due out or in the works. Its been out for awhile. What is new is that compliance to it is required this year for doctors and hospitals that take Medicare and Medicaid patients.

Not sure if this is the right thread - could not find one for the consumer outreach subgroup. Anyway here goes...

Interesting announcement from Aetna, my health insurance provider, on their web portal. I searched for Personal Health Record and it sounded like there was one - I guess it is the insurance company's way of assembling a PHR based on insurance claims - that's nice! The portal lets me see the data, that's nice too. Now I wanted to download a digital version for import into MyLinks and I see this notice from them. Look at the line in bold. The online sharing feature is discontinued. :-(

Change to your Aetna Personal Health Record (PHR):
As of 5/21/2020, you won't be able to use the Aetna PHR to share data online with your doctors. Instead, you can download or print a copy, using the menu option below. Then, you can email or take the print version with you to your next doctor's appointment. The online provider sharing feature is being discontinued due to low usage by members. You can still share it with adult family members included in your Aetna health plan. Just select the Share Your Health menu below to learn how.

Print a PDF and take a hardcopy with me to my next doctor's appointment, really? Way to go Aetna, back to the 1980's!

I bet this is related to the CMS Cures rule that went in effect on July 1. They are probably discontinuing the PHR option since they'll have a FHIR option available, and supporting two different ways to do the same thing electronically is a waste of resources. Was there any mention of their FHIR option? I wonder if they are just a bit behind on the communication for their FHIR API solution.

@Jay Gauthier , good news. MyLinks will soon allow you to import your Aetna records directly into MyLinks via FHIR. We are working with Aetna to set this up and test it. We hope it won't be too much longer. I will IM you when it is wired up!
