Topic: Great FHIR session at #S4PM2019
Dave deBronkart (Oct 16 2019 at 22:00):
Yesterday at the Society for Participatory Medicine's third annual conference, @Brian Kaney gave a great short talk (~15 minutes), giving them a brief introduction to the existence of FHIR. The great majority of them are interested in data access, but are not at ALL technical; but also in the audience were SPM members @Keith Boone and @Nancy Lush .
Both Brian and his "sponsor" in SPM (me) were challenged to figure out how to alert people to FHIR's emergence-in-process. The non-technical people's eyes often looked puzzled but curious; the truth came out during 10 minutes of Q&A, which started slow but quickly picked up, to the point where we had to cut it short when time ran out. And as the others will attest, it got feverish in a good way - as I ended discussion I said "Heated confusion - this is great!" and everyone laughed.
The whole last session is in this Facebook Live video. I gave 5 minutes of background, then around the right-side minute marker 1:02:00 Brian starts.
Around 24:30 left, Keith touts the Patient Engagement Workgroup. :-)

And with around 7:05 remaining is our annual Dave-and-his-doctor duet. This year it's "Steadily Depressin, Low-Down Mind-Messin', Cannot Get My Data Blues." In one verse I sang:
Gimme My DaM Data, I can't wait till later - Do I have to set this place on FHIR??
Virginia Lorenzi (Nov 27 2019 at 19:09):
Catching up on the chat. Do you have a recording of Steadily Depressin, Low-Down Mind-Messin', Cannot Get My Data Blues? You know I love the HIT Arts.
Dave deBronkart (Nov 27 2019 at 19:11):
The position in the FB video is identified in that message!
Virginia Lorenzi (Nov 27 2019 at 19:16):
Not on FB. Its a wonderful thing
Dave deBronkart (Nov 27 2019 at 19:38):
Ohhhh, I bet you can't see it because you're not a member of the SPM FB group! Is that true?
(I mean this: The whole last session is in this Facebook Live video https://www.facebook.com/participatorymedicine/videos/539567450143262/ )
I'll try to sneak a screen grab of it and YouTube it or something. Don't tell anyone. Oops, this is a public chat. Heh.
Dave deBronkart (Nov 27 2019 at 20:04):
Okay @Virginia Lorenzi here you go - I did an amateur "pan & scan" capture of the song. It's about 3 minutes long, mediocre quality at best. My doctor and me demonstrating doctor-patient harmony.
Steadily Depressin', Low-Down Mind-Messin' Cannot Get My Data Blues
Virginia Lorenzi (Nov 29 2019 at 23:09):
That is hysterical. Made my night :)
Dave deBronkart (Nov 30 2019 at 14:50):
Glad you're easily humored @Virginia Lorenzi
