Hi - Say I have an Encounter profile e1, that references a Patient profile p1(subject). In some situations it make sense to make a derivation of the encounter e1, lets call the derivation e2. And it also makes sense to have a derivation of patient p1, let call the patient derivation p2 . Now which patient may Encounter e2 reference as subject, only p1 (inherited from e1) or either p1 or p2 ?

if p2 is a specialisation of p1, then both would be allowed. Note that the question as to "what profile should one claim in the meta part of an e2 instance" is a different one. The answer to that one is: "it depends" - mainly on the server, but in general on agreements between clients & server.
