Re GF#17529 @Christine D Please provide a detailed definition of "analytical method" with a real-world example or two and how it differs from 'Observation.method'
Christine D (Sep 06 2018 at 11:38):
This may be definition semantics. After looking at the definitions, we concluded that the analytical method is a different concept and does not fit the existing definition of method (which, per definition, is more tied to the collection vs how the value was derived/calculated). When you have a calculated or derived value, you need to provide this detail per SDTM. (LBANMETH)

@Christine D could you decipher the codes or acronyms above. and when you say "which, per definition, is more tied to the collection vs how the value was derived/calculated" you are referring to this definition?:
"Indicates the mechanism used to perform the observation."
right?
That definition is a little sparse and probably taken HL7 V2. (" the method or procedure by which an observation was obtained") see attached figure . Screen-Shot-2018-09-06-at-9.01.51-AM.png it basically means the same thing as the method property in LOINC. Do you have a suggestion for a clearer definition?
Christine D (Sep 06 2018 at 18:39):
Adding @Lorraine Spencer to the conversation. Lorraine, can you elaborate on analytical method?
Rob Hausam (Sep 10 2018 at 16:19):
I think that the definition of Observation.method (although sparse) is intended to include the "analytic method" (as in your examples), and I don't think it is intended to be tied to the collection. So I think we'll need to have some further discussion.
