Rob Hausam (Jul 19 2019 at 22:10):
We had rather extensive discussion of this about a year ago, in these topics:
https://chat.fhir.org/#narrow/stream/179166-implementers/topic/Fasting.20Patient
https://chat.fhir.org/#narrow/stream/179256-Orders-and.20Observation.20WG/topic/Fasting.20Patient.2E.2E.2E
https://chat.fhir.org/#narrow/stream/179256-Orders-and.20Observation.20WG/topic/Fasting.20status.20GF.2317380
https://chat.fhir.org/#narrow/stream/179166-implementers/topic/Cholesterol.20fasting.20indication
This culminated in the resolution for GF#17380 (voted and applied, but not recorded as such?), where we added Specimen.collection.fastingStatus[x] in R4. There is also the observation-precondition extension, as noted in the last Zulip topic above.
Andrea Pitkus, PhD, MLS(ASCP)CM, CSM (Apr 29 2020 at 13:15):
Sometimes an AOE is asked of the specimen collector/ordered such as # hours fasting, to collect for each patient and it's included as a result as part of a panel reported (such as 10 hours fasting in lipid profile).
