Topic: Communication of at home Covid-19 tests
Gay Dolin (Feb 18 2021 at 20:01):
Cross posting (sorry) due to lack of response on the Covid-10 Response thread: Has there been FHIR work done on the communication of at home Covid 19 test results? Looking at the companies that provide these tests, they seem to provide web interfaces with communication of results with the patient. Is there a use case/need for standardized communication from these companies direct to EHRs (handled appropriately) should a patient provide the needed permission? Would EHRs even be willing to manage such incoming messages/data?
Brendan Keeler (Feb 20 2021 at 17:53):
So the only "open" capabilities exposed via patient authorized are reading the USCDI. Writing data back with patient authorization isn't exposed today
Brendan Keeler (Feb 20 2021 at 17:54):
So you have two options - BAA relationships one by one (yuck) or putting the results in a CDA document and sending over Direct Messaging (not FHIR and a fairly degraded network)
Brendan Keeler (Feb 20 2021 at 17:55):
#patient empowerment is perhaps a more appropriate channel for this
Gay Dolin (Feb 25 2021 at 19:53):
Thanks Brendan
