Topic: CDA vs FHIR Observations

I may have heard incorrectly, but hope this thread can point me in the right direction if so: Am I correct that the use of Observations in CDA was different than the use of Observations in FHIR? We are leveraging a CDA IG to create the FHIR IG but are finding that an Observation doesn't fit in FHIR as it did in CDA. Wondered if there was some guidance from this group?

Observation was used as a grab-bag way to extend v3 instances in some cases, while FHIR uses extensions for that. However, the typical use of Observations (labs, vitals, symptoms, etc.) was the same in CDA as it is in FHIR.

That helps a bit Lloyd, thank you. We can see the "grab bag" approach in CDA that we are now fine-tuning for FHIR. If that was the right way to describe the approach.
