Topic: type for itemControl
Paul Lynch (Feb 19 2021 at 00:46):
Why is the type of the itemControl extension CodeableConcept rather than simply Coding?
Lloyd McKenzie (Feb 19 2021 at 00:59):
Allowing for translations
Lloyd McKenzie (Feb 19 2021 at 00:59):
Agree that 'text' isn't useful.
Lloyd McKenzie (Feb 19 2021 at 00:59):
We could put in a usage note to that effect. (If you wanted to write up a CR  )
Paul Lynch (Feb 19 2021 at 01:03):
I might if I understood it. How would you specify which Coding in the CodeableConcept was for which language? BTW, I also see http://hl7.org/fhir/StructureDefinition/translation, which is an extension that could be put on the display field of a Coding.
Lloyd McKenzie (Feb 19 2021 at 01:05):
Not language translation, code translation. Maybe you have codes that differentiate between styles of radio buttons, so you want to send a local code in addition to the HL7 code.
Paul Lynch (Feb 19 2021 at 01:13):
Well, that is just barely plausible, but okay. :-) J#31347.
Brian Postlethwaite (Feb 20 2021 at 04:12):
When I've included those values in our migrations, I've used our own extensions rather than coding in here.
Lloyd McKenzie (Feb 20 2021 at 04:15):
Why?
Brian Postlethwaite (Feb 20 2021 at 04:24):
It's often not that simple. So I just have simple extensions with the raw values from the source.
Brian Postlethwaite (Feb 20 2021 at 04:25):
And it's not a coding, just a numeric value. And keep it there for tracing backwards if needed later.
(sometimes strip them when going to IG or prod)
