It should be the content you'd expect to appear in a 'style' attribute on an HTML element.

That is what the rendering-style page says, but http://build.fhir.org/ig/HL7/sdc/rendering.html#text-appearance points to the HTML "style" tag rather than the style attribute. For the style tag, you need an expression specifying the tags to which the styles apply. I'll submit a tracker item to fix that.
