The SDC page on extraction says, regarding observationLinkPeriod, " This extension indicates the period of time over which to search for matching observations." That sounds like pre-population. Is searching for matching observations something one should do during extraction?

Someone I talked to who only wanted to do extraction was quite puzzled by the need to specify a period.
