This is strange to me - the whitespace on top, and the syntax highlight of the closing tags...

all the xmls I looked at (2!!) were doing the same. This one should be a clean one. I'll look at the template.

For syntax, I noticed that the closing tag and opening tag have different colors. Is that intentional?

no, the renderer uses prism - a js library - to do syntax highlighting

Nevermind the styles. The opening tags are hyperlinks so of course they are different
