I have a file that I want to simply include in the publication directory. It is not something that the IG builder will create or validate. I just need it copied from the input to the output. Somewhat like the images, but not images.

I'd think it's best to have a folder called "additional-content" or "raw_files"...

I don't mind images... I just was not clear that all files in that folder are copied to output and made. Ill give that a try.

I could imagine a parameter in the IG that lists the folders to copy. Thus I can have the folder name of my choosing to do my editing within.. for now I will just do images folder.

Would prefer a standard folder name. (All this stuff is configurable, but it'd be better to minimize variation in IG source to simplify maintenance by people other than the author.)
Neither 'additional-content' nor 'raw-files' really says what it's for. How about 'copy-to-output'? (We can still keep the 'images' folder)

in my case the folder would be gherkin files. this is why I was figuring a folder name I could assign.

I don't know John's requirements but for gherkin stuff I would (later) wrap those somehow (for example to put it in the testing tab)

as to narrative to these feature files, yes I do have human intended narrative that points at them. I confirmed that is easy to include narrative with hyperlinks. I would eventually like a transform that would make a pretty human readable form given the feature file text format. But ultimately the feature file text format is needed in that format.

I was thinking of something else for gherkin.
But to just have it copied directly to the output, we can simply add a folder as Lloyd indicates.
