Topic: Suitable for publishing?
David Pyke (Sep 25 2020 at 14:29):
I just got this message at the end of my build:
"Note that this IG has not been built in a fashion suitable for publication (consult Confluence for publishing advice if you are actually building with intent to publish)"
What page is it referring to?
Lloyd McKenzie (Sep 25 2020 at 14:50):
@Grahame Grieve A URL would be nice. Also, I've had others freak out about the message. Perhaps reword it as "Published as a continuous integration snapshot. To publish this IG with the redirects and other files necessary for a final publication, refer to the documentation at ..."
David Pyke (Sep 25 2020 at 15:08):
Yes, please! THat is a much better message
Grahame Grieve (Sep 25 2020 at 15:08):
it's not a CI build, it's your local build
Grahame Grieve (Sep 25 2020 at 15:09):
what about this message freaks people out?
David Pyke (Sep 25 2020 at 15:09):
Okay, still would like a URL as part of the message and what "not suitable for publishing" means
Grahame Grieve (Sep 25 2020 at 15:14):
well, there isn't a URL yet. Work in progress.
Grahame Grieve (Sep 25 2020 at 15:14):
not suitable for publishing means just that...
David Pyke (Sep 25 2020 at 15:15):
Maybe a list or example of what is different from publishable version or something so that I know that it only means this is a local build
Lloyd McKenzie (Sep 25 2020 at 15:46):
From most people's perspective, CI build is publishing. The current message makes it sound like they've messed something up or broken a rule.
Lloyd McKenzie (Sep 25 2020 at 15:47):
If it's better to say "Published as a local build snapshot", that's fine.
Kevin Power (Sep 25 2020 at 16:06):
FWIW - I want to echo what Lloyd said. I did read it to mean "there is something wrong with your IG and it will not get published until you fix something" but then I had no idea what was wrong. It was not obvious to me that it meant it was just a local build, and hence this specific instance wasn't suitable for publishing.
In retrospect, I can see I read too much into the message, but it still caught me very off guard. Perhaps I missed an announcement about why this message was introduced?
Grahame Grieve (Sep 25 2020 at 16:17):
there was no announcement, because in fact, I fixed a bug that meant this message wasn't consistently showing. it's been there a long time.
