Compiling a part of the sample IG, I get "Unable to find ImplementationGuide.definition.resource.name for the resource Binary/example. Name is mandatory if it cannot be inferred from the resource to allow proper population of the artifact list". For resources that do not have .name or .title, is this still an error?

..I believe you can always declare them in the <resource> element within the ig.xml; if this was the question :-)

(at least name and description)

yes, but if you don't do that, the template can take over and populates those from the resource, so either you have the resource with a name or the name explicitly in the IG (which I do, and it creates an ig.xml that is hard to manage).

Since the template has a "Plan B" (getting the names from the resources) I was wondering what happens when plan B fails because for resources like Binary it will always fail (i think): is it an error or a warning?

sorry, I misunderstood the question :-)
