I have created a template for the Vulcan accelerator and I'm wondering what leeway we have in changing the look and feel? I can obviously add a logo (which I did) but can we change the colour scheme?

Yep, you can change almost everything based on a project.css file in a custom template. It's fairly straightforward

i know that I can technically change those things. I've done that for other projects. I was asking more of a governance - am I allowed to change them?

For an HL7 FHIR IG, they have to stick to the colour scheme, for any other it's up to you.

It allows for the addition of a second logo, if it's an accellerator and/or a joint copyright project.

is an Accelerator IG considered an HL7 FHIR IG? It's published by HL7 so I'm assuming so and none of the other Accelerators changed the colours. But they all added a logo.

did a search of HL7 Confluence and could not find any governance discussion around templates

Accelerator IGs are considered HL7 FHIR IGs. They'll go through balloting like any other HL7 IG

We haven't set a firm rule prohibiting changes to color or other formatting, but my general leaning would be against it. Adding the accelerator logo is sufficient to differentiate. From a branding and consistency perspective, we want all HL7 IGs (whether developed within an accelerator or not) to have a consistent appearance and behavior. Also, the colors are intended to differentiate between FHIR, CDA and v2 IGs, so divergence loses us that benefit.

technically, this is a product management issue that I rule on. And if I do, then it'll be current practice as described by Lloyd: colour is for product family, and accelerators add a logo for the accelerator
