@Josh Mandel I'm looking at the comparison between R4 subscriptions and R5 subscriptions. There's no way to convert between them, so far as I can see. Is this deliberate and planned?

I think there is a paradigm shift ( search based criteria to topic based criteria ) and there is no way to translate them even it was technically feasible to map from R4 to R5.

I mean how would you translate Criteria = search for change in element A in resource B to look for topic C with filter = element A changes?

so we are basically breaking subscription and leaving no support for the old model
