In the QEDm standare the search parameters required to be implemented are as follows:

Why is Observation.category present in the search when Observation.category is an optional element? What happens if the Clinical Data Source does not use Observation.category ?

@John Moehrke appreciate this is not an IHE forum but didn't know where else to post it.

I have seen a few more typos/queries so will submit them via the IHE process

the PCC CP process can be found https://wiki.ihe.net/index.php/PCC_Change_Proposals

@Emma Jones can you respond to the question?

view this post on Zulip John Moehrke (Sep 04 2019 at 16:27):

I expect that the fact of the element being optional is not critical for the query parameter being required to be supported. That combination will work, just won't find anything that was not categorized.

Hmm yes, but :

1) As a Clinical Data Source why would I build in a search capability that has no value?
2) As a Clinical Data Consumer, which search can I safely use (as in being supported) if I don't have a category?

Thanks for the process info. I submitted other issues back in April but have found a few more so will raise a further CP. I suspect they will be considered at the next iteration of the standard.

I don't disagree with you. I have asked that all the QEDm requirements be enhanced for more effective use.
That said, there is no input in QEDm, it is a Query only profile, so all it can do is define a useful subset of query parameters.
I suspect that the most likely use-case is not using anything but patient parameter
but, I was not involved in the original development of QEDm.

Note that PCC did agree to examine these and improve QEDm... There is a GitHUB repository dedicated to the improvement of QEDm.

Please submit CPs. As John mentioned. This version of QEDm did not include profiling content resources. It was planned for future versions of QEDm.

Thanks @Emma Jones I have completed the CP and sent it to the pcctech@googlegroups.com address, but it bounced as I don't have access to that group. Shall I send it to you, to forward on?

Hi Richard – can you please forward your email address?

Thanks, Emma
