Hi, I'm learning about how CQL applies to Clinical Decision Support. I was looking at Bryn Rhodes' Youtube videos from 2018 and 2020, and he mentions that CDS is being used for potential Opioid overuse, Antenatal care with WHO, and screenings for breast cancer, colon cancer, and other cancers.

I found the Opioid overuse screener, but haven't seen the Antenatal care or the cancer screening use cases. Can anyone point me to those?

I work for a primary care group -- I suspect those may all be good use cases for my company. If you are aware of others who are using CQL and CDS in primary care, please let me know what you have seen.

Thanks!

-Daniel

@Daniel Tam , the Antenatal care content is here: https://github.com/WorldHealthOrganization/smart-anc, continuous integration build is here: http://build.fhir.org/ig/WorldHealthOrganization/smart-anc

The Lung Cancer Screening (a very simple example) is here: https://github.com/cqframework/lcs-cds, CI build here: http://build.fhir.org/ig/cqframework/lcs-cds

I'd also note that the FHIR Clinical Guidelines IG has some interesting CQL-based CDS examples (which includes a version of the Antenatal Care Guidelines). In addition, if you're not aware of the CDS Connect Repository, you should check it out as it hosts several CDS artifacts that use CQL (in addition to artifacts using other standards/technologies).

Thank you Josh, Bryn, and Chris! Very helpful. I'll check these out.

One follow-up -- @Bryn Rhodes and @Chris Moesel : are you aware of any clinics or health systems in the U.S. using CQL-based CDS tools? Was curious if these are being used in the field yet.

Apologies for missing this @Daniel Tam , we have piloted CQL-based CDS with FHIR and CDS Hooks in multiple locations, and some of those have continued using the applications in production. They have been very focused pilots with very limited user bases, but yes, there is some experience with these solutions in the field, and we are continuing to gather more. All the projects I'm aware of are listed in the community projects link above, though those don't have details on which sites are piloting/using the applications.

Thanks Bryn -- I really appreciate the info. Are you able to share contact information on who has piloted these, especially in production? I'd like to hear what has worked well and any learnings others may have had, as I'm considering how CDS and CDS Hooks could be used at my organization. Happy to send a direct message if that would be more appropriate.
