Topic: code system for donor ids
Bob Milius (Apr 08 2020 at 21:12):
We need a code/naming system for the "Global Registration Identifiers for Donors" (GRID).
The page describing it is found here
https://www.iccbba.org/tech-library/iccbba-documents/standards-documents/global-registration-identifier-for-donors-ion-database-and-grid-rules
How our organization uses it is found here:
https://www.cibmtr.org/DataManagement/TrainingReference/Documents/GRID%20Frequently%20Asked%20Questions%20Network%20CIBMTR.pdf
The GRID consists of
4-digit Issuing Organization Number
13-character Registration Donor Identifier (RDI)
2-digit checksum
We would like to use it a patient identifier in our donor registry, but wonder what code/naming system we would give it?
Grahame Grieve (Apr 08 2020 at 21:14):
do you have any contacts at iccbba.org? can you ask them about a permalink for the concept? e.g. http://iccbba.org/grid would be excellent
Bob Milius (Apr 08 2020 at 21:18):
I'll ask re contacts. What would be Plan B?
Add it to http://hl7.org/fhir/identifier-registry.html ?
Grahame Grieve (Apr 08 2020 at 21:33):
plan B... we have to define something. MUCH better if they do
Bob Milius (Apr 10 2020 at 16:41):
I contacted them and here's a bit of their reply
We are planning to extract this table from the Technical Specification and give it its own web location in the near future. We use the numeric OID as the urn and for the GRID this is: urn:oid:2.16.840.1.113883.6.18.1.39
We also maintain this information in the OID repository (see http://oid-info.com/get/2.16.840.1.113883.6.18.1.39)
So until they get a uri set up (don't know how when 'near term' is) , we can use the urn:oid
? or maybe the oid-info link?
Grahame Grieve (Apr 10 2020 at 20:13):
yes we can use an OID. Always a less convenient outcome.
Lloyd McKenzie (Apr 11 2020 at 02:17):
Can you try to convince them to use a proper URL? OIDs really suck... (And migration of URIs at some point in the future also really sucks)
Carol Macumber (May 20 2020 at 17:00):
The HTA has a process for communicating the need for a stable code system identifier. Please see the information here https://confluence.hl7.org/display/TA/External+Code+System+Owner+Engagement+Process. @ Bob Milius , if you still need assistance please enter a request into JIRA. If you have already obtained all the necessary information, HTA still needs to document it and make it available via the External Terminologies pages on Confluence (and subsequently, we have also been drafting "Using X in FHIR" pages ) to ensure consisten identiciation by implementers.
