Topic: Terms of use for tx.fhir.org
Morten Ernebjerg (Jul 09 2021 at 08:39):
I'm working on an implementation that can use an external terminology server and am considering mentioning in the documentation that one can test using tx.fhir.org. However, before doing so I want to make sure I correctly understand what is considered acceptable usage so that I do not cause (or get into :smile: ) trouble. It's clear that it is not guaranteed to be up and running 24-7 and should not be used for production, but I didn't find any further details on the server itself. What are the "politeness rules" & term of use for use of this server, e.g.
- In general, what are the appropriate usage scenarios for tx.fhir.org?
- What rate of queries from a single source is considered OK?
- Is the usage of this server restricted by license terms of the code systems (since it has e.g. SNOMED loaded)? Or does usage imply accepting certain license terms?

@Morten Ernebjerg Those are lots of good questions. And we may have some answers (hopefully good ones) for some of them. I expect that @Grahame Grieve has at least given some thought to some or all of it, but I don't know if we have any useful and accessible documentation for it anywhere. This isn't really addressed so far on the GitHub page or the server endpoints (/r4).
Morten Ernebjerg (Jul 12 2021 at 13:50):
@Rob Hausam ah, OK. I gather Grahame is travelling, but do you reckon it is at least OK to mention in documentation of implementations using external terminology servers that one can test such functionality using tx.fhir.org (in a strictly testing & non-productive setting)?
Michael Lawley (Jul 12 2021 at 13:58):
quite happy for you to also suggest testing with https://r4.ontoserver.csiro.au/fhir too
Morten Ernebjerg (Jul 12 2021 at 14:00):
@Michael Lawley Great, will do!
Rob Hausam (Jul 12 2021 at 14:05):
@Morten Ernebjerg Yes, that's certainly one of the reasons (beyond strictly FHIR IG publishing) for setting up tx.fhir.org, so I think it's fine to say that - both for tx.fhir.org and Ontoserver.
Morten Ernebjerg (Jul 12 2021 at 15:28):
Thanks @Rob Hausam
