Hi all,
After reviewing the FHIR Observation resource and the relevant terminology binding - what are people's experiences on using the Observation resource to capture "observation of risk"?

The below FHIR extension suggests this could be used but does not suggest any terminology binding. Does that mean any coding system can be used?
eg.
| 705089007 | At risk of breast cancer (finding)

https://www.hl7.org/fhir/extension-family-member-history-genetics-observation.html
Allows capturing risk-relevant observations about the relative that aren't themselves a specific health condition; e.g. Certain ethnic ancestries that are disease-relevant, presence of particular genetic markers, etc.

sounds more like a clinical assessment to me....

Are you suggesting using a different FHIR resource? ie. https://www.hl7.org/fhir/riskassessment.html?

What I meant is that a finding of risk really isn't a measurement. The observable is 'mother had breast cancer" the assessment leads to the determination of risk. So think another resources is more appropriate. @Michelle (Moseman) Miller or @Lloyd McKenzie may want to chime in here as well.

Observation and RiskAssessment are your best candidates. RiskAssessment allows you to capture more detail, but a raw determination as an Observation would be acceptable. (RiskAssessment is a "tuned" Observation resource like AllergyIntolerance and Condition, so you should expect some overlap in practice.)
