Topic: NUCC Provider Role
Grahame Grieve (Feb 15 2022 at 09:42):
Doing QA on an IG, I ran into this value set:
https://www.hl7.org/fhir/us/core/ValueSet-us-core-provider-specialty.html
@Eric Haas what's the intent with this value set? The value set definition is Include codes from http://nucc.org/provider-taxonomy where abstract = false, but the NUCC provider specialty - see https://github.com/FHIR/packages/blob/master/packages/fhir.tx.support.r4/package/CodeSystem-nucc-provider-taxonomy.json - does not define abstract codes.

@Robert McClure you are interested in this code system
Eric Haas (Feb 15 2022 at 17:24):
Looking at the US core history file it was a result of FHIR-27975.
Eric Haas (Feb 15 2022 at 17:25):
Spoiler alert....

Eric Haas (Feb 15 2022 at 17:29):
perhaps the code system has been updated since then?
Eric Haas (Feb 15 2022 at 17:36):
Indeed it looks like it has been updated - I am surmising that what once was "abstract" now has the property "grouping" but will need to confirm. In version 4.0.0 , we essentially deprecated this valueset by linking directly to the FHIR® Terminology Service for VSAC Resources. We are planning to mark this and other changes in 4.0.0 and 4.1.0 as patches in Jira for 3.1.1 to help certifiers navigate these updates which are not reflected in the regulations which lags the US Core by 2 versions and point to 3.1.1.
