Topic: NUBC Type Of Bill
David Teirney (Dec 19 2017 at 02:50):
Has a system been published for NUBC Type of Bill codes (http://oid-info.com/get/2.16.840.1.113883.6.301.1)
At a guess, perhaps it would be http://www.nubc.org/type-of-bill to align with http://www.nubc.org/patient-discharge (http://oid-info.com/get/2.16.840.1.113883.6.301.5)
Rob Hausam (Jan 17 2018 at 15:39):
@David Teirney I haven't worked directly with the NUBC codes myself and am not that familiar with the various ones that are available (beyond "NUBC"). Your suggestion seems pretty reasonable to me.
Robert McClure (Jan 17 2018 at 19:02):
@David Teirney NUBC (the National Uniform Billing Committee) essentially defines a number of "code systems" - one for each encoded field in UB-04. We've had Field 17 -which is the "patient discharge" - for a long time because it's in C-CDA and elsewhere. NUBC is managed by the American Hospital Association (AHA) and they see the codes used for UB-04 as propritary and require a license to use them. NLM/ONC/VSAC has for years been working with AHA to obtain these codes and it's not happened but we've gotten closer - for that one FL-17 set.
What this means is that "publishing the system" is against NUBC's IP restrictions. Deciding on a FHIR url is a different matter, but I think you want access to the content, correct?
David Teirney (Feb 02 2018 at 10:05):
@Robert McClure, I was referring to whether the FHIR system URI is going to be published. @Rob Hausam what are the next steps to formalize the suggestion so it's published somewhere official?
