Topic: LOINC COVID test codes?

view this post on Zulip David Pyke (Mar 18 2021 at 15:12):

Are the COVID test codes likely to be added soon? I've got an IG spitting warnings about the test codes not being valid

view this post on Zulip Rob Hausam (Mar 18 2021 at 15:29):

There is an import bug that so far has prevented loading LOINC 2.69. :(

view this post on Zulip Rob Hausam (Mar 18 2021 at 15:30):

We'll try to get it resolved as soon as possible.

view this post on Zulip Max Masnick (Mar 24 2021 at 10:55):

@Rob Hausam any update on this? We need to use the COVID lab test codes from LOINC for the Vaccination Credential IG.

view this post on Zulip David Pyke (Mar 24 2021 at 13:04):

They can't make the latest version of LOINC load. They've been fighting with it for months

view this post on Zulip Lin Zhang (Mar 24 2021 at 13:34):

Why not load a ValueSet first?

view this post on Zulip Lloyd McKenzie (Mar 24 2021 at 13:36):

If the value set references codes that don't "exist" validation will fail

Alright, I see. Thanks.

@Max Masnick @David Pyke Yes, David is correct. I think I can probably work around this for now by massaging the LOINC source data, and I need to find a few minutes (or hours, maybe) to try that out. If we can get that done then we can deal with getting the importer code fixed later (at least by the time of the next release). I haven't tried that approach yet, but it seems likely doable and I'll see if I can make headway with it hopefully later today.

Who owns the importer code? And is this something that MITRE could theoretically help fix?

view this post on Zulip Rob Hausam (Mar 24 2021 at 16:54):

@Max Masnick It's Grahame's code (originally), but of course anyone should be welcome to contribute. The pascal stream is where it's discussed and you can see what's involved. I haven't added a topic for this particular LOINC import issue yet, but we could.

view this post on Zulip Max Masnick (Mar 24 2021 at 16:56):

Ah, Pascal may make it hard to find someone who can work on it.

view this post on Zulip Rob Hausam (Mar 24 2021 at 16:57):

Right.

I can now report that I've finally worked through fixing the issues that we had with the LOINC loader, and LOINC has now been updated to 2.69 on tx.fhir.org! @Max Masnick @David Pyke
