Topic: Implicit value set for NDC codes?
Jean Duteau (Feb 22 2022 at 19:26):
I need to refer to all NDC codes in one of my IGuides and I'm surprised that there isn't an implicit value set for NDC. I expected there would be one since this seems like a common value set and is similar to the implicit value set we have for RxNorm. Is it due to the fact that there isn't a proper means to determine the expansion according to the version issues note?
Grahame Grieve (Feb 23 2022 at 20:10):
I don't understand this question. What kind of implicit value set do you want?
Michael Lawley (Feb 23 2022 at 22:03):
I presume a value for CodeSystem.valueSet
for the NDC CodeSystem?
Grahame Grieve (Feb 23 2022 at 22:19):
oh right. that's not an implicit value set. But it would be good to know that that is, yes
Jean Duteau (Feb 23 2022 at 22:59):
Sorry, I misread the RxNorm page. On the RxNorm page it has the following:
Implicit Value Sets
Implicit value sets are those whose specification can be predicted based on the grammar of the underlying code system, and the known structure of the URL that refers to them. At the time of this publication, RxNorm does not define implicit value sets.
The identifier http://www.nlm.nih.gov/research/umls/rxnorm/vs represents a value set that contains all RxNorm CUIs.
I was looking for something similar for NDC codes:
http://hl7.org/fhir/sid/ndc/vs
Grahame Grieve (Feb 23 2022 at 23:01):
we don't really have a policy but I don't think we have sub-identifiers in any existing sids
Rob Hausam (Feb 23 2022 at 23:55):
What's the "sub-identifier" in this case? I think Jean just needs the "all codes" value set url for NDC.
Grahame Grieve (Feb 24 2022 at 00:00):
vs is a sub-identifier to ndc in this case

Yes, in the end of the day, that's actually what I want - the "all NDC codes" value set. :)
