Topic: Google Question
Grahame Grieve (Feb 28 2017 at 00:47):
So I am considering introducing google search back to the spec, since it appears that we will never have time to figure out solr/cold fusion for the hl7 site - and that doesn't help with build.fhir.org either
Grahame Grieve (Feb 28 2017 at 00:47):
of course, google search is blocked in China.
Grahame Grieve (Feb 28 2017 at 00:48):
so some questions:
- if the search page includes the google form, is the page itself blocked, or just the google functionality?
- does Baidu have an equivalent for embedded search, so we could add that too?
- is Baidu china only, or would other countries where google is blocked be able to use Baidu as an alternative?
Grahame Grieve (Feb 28 2017 at 00:49):
@Lin Zhang can you look into this please
Lin Zhang (Feb 28 2017 at 14:28):
OK, I'm on it.
Lin Zhang (Feb 28 2017 at 14:40):
google is totally blocked. My question is if the search would be limited to content within the FHIR site. thx.
Lin Zhang (Feb 28 2017 at 15:03):
An embeded Bing search box would be preferred for users in China, and Bing is likely working for other countries. Thanks.
Grahame Grieve (Mar 01 2017 at 02:02):
search would be limited to search within fhir site.
Grahame Grieve (Mar 01 2017 at 02:03):
but if we put google in there, does that block the page itself? or just the search?
Lin Zhang (Mar 01 2017 at 17:48):
Just the search, I think. It might need to be confirmed by testing. But that would slow down the loading of the page itself if it load something from Google before any searching.
Lin Zhang (Mar 01 2017 at 17:52):
Bing is the best alternative and it works for Chinese and other lamguages including English.
Lin Zhang (Mar 01 2017 at 17:59):
For example, the search function is powered by Bing on the ONC's site ONC HealthIT.gov
Lin Zhang (Mar 01 2017 at 18:10):
This is a music search page powered by Google: http://musgle.com/
I can visit this page but the browser would give me an error message if I try to search something.
Grahame Grieve (Mar 01 2017 at 19:07):
ok thanks
Lin Zhang (Mar 02 2017 at 07:57):
My pleasure!
Lin Zhang (Mar 03 2017 at 14:09):
I wonder why the google search works for the AHRQ's site.

Grahame Grieve (Mar 03 2017 at 18:52):
bizarre
Lin Zhang (Mar 05 2017 at 13:21):
yes, wierd! But why? The answer may be useful.
Lin Zhang (Mar 05 2017 at 16:43):
Its results might be cached??
Grahame Grieve (Apr 24 2017 at 21:11):
ok, so let's start with this
Grahame Grieve (Apr 24 2017 at 21:12):
can someone in China please let me know whether this search works:
Grahame Grieve (Apr 24 2017 at 21:12):
http://www.hl7.org/fhir/search.cfm
Grahame Grieve (Apr 24 2017 at 21:12):
thanks. (if it doesn't, I'll work on other options)
BobXue (Apr 25 2017 at 00:41):
we can visit the address, but there are only three links ( Release 3 (STU3), DSTU2, DSTU1 ).
Lin Zhang (Apr 25 2017 at 01:25):
It shows:
Search FHIR using Google Search
Note: this search searches all versions of the FHIR specification, including ballot packs. You can also search specific versions:

The user in china don't see the search box and blue button.
Lin Zhang (Apr 25 2017 at 01:29):
Without showing the search box and button.
Grahame Grieve (Apr 25 2017 at 13:15):
ok, so obviously the search doesn't work either. I'll add Bing to it
Grahame Grieve (Apr 25 2017 at 13:15):

Yunwei Wang (Apr 25 2017 at 13:26):
The newly added Bing search works in china.
