@Lloyd McKenzie mentioned on the call today (Tuesday) that FMG was considering a FHIR Core 4.1 release early next year, so wanted to start a thread to discuss how that might impact CG. Couple of things come to mind:

  • Quickly discussed making changes to the Genomics Implementation Guidance page to more clearly refer to our IG. The proposed changes are here: J#27159. Does that seem like something that could be included?
  • We did remove all of the outdated genomic FHIR profiles, extensions, examples. Is it possible to include that change in 4.1?

Great questions. If we can't remove the profiles or extensions, we may want to consider adding in textual deprecation warnings to the structures themselves, pointing folks to the IG. I would hope removing or replacing the examples would be permitted.

My guess is that removing the artifacts wouldn't be allowed with the 4.1 scope, but certainly marking them as deprecated and including language directing readers to the IG should be possible.

Can we make a request to remove them? I think that is much preferred.

I'll put it on the FMG's agenda

@Lloyd McKenzie - If it helps for anyone to see what we removed, here is the PR: https://github.com/HL7/fhir/pull/877
