Topic: Connectathon proposals / formatting

I just filled out a track proposal at https://confluence.hl7.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=97459091 and I'm worried the "structured" form is not improving things.
- Data entry in these form fields was super finicky (Jira kept losing what I wrote; bullet lists refuse to indent correctly), and
- The resulting page has a pageId instead of a "nice" URL (https://confluence.hl7.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=97459091 instead of https://confluence.hl7.org/display/FHIR/2020-09+Argonaut+Granular+Controls which was the track back in Sept)
- The resulting page doesn't fit / render correctly on my screen (I get horizontal scrollbars and need to go back and forth to read it):
@Sandra Vance are these known issues? Can you remind me the benefits of this new format?

Hi Josh - not expected at all. I will work with HQ to see if we can smooth it out. There are a number of benefits to using this to collect structured data. 1.) We have the track lead list gathered and can see updates easily so that as things change we don't miss people. 2.) Newcomers can see the track descriptions and high level info at a glance on the home page. 3.) Having the template render a ToC at the top of the track page makes it easier for participants to navigate the page. I recognize that this causes a bit of pain for the track leads, but hopefully the outcomes described here will be worth it. Thanks for hanging in there with us as we try to make this better in a virtual world.
Josh Mandel (Nov 17 2020 at 02:20):
Okay. It might be worth something hybrid like: submit a track lead and a short description as structured data, and leave the rest free form / template driven.
Josh Mandel (Dec 02 2020 at 21:50):
To follow up here: I'm still experiencing these issues. I'm assuming it's not just me?
Josh Mandel (Dec 02 2020 at 21:50):
(I've checked across multiple devices.)
Eric Haas (Dec 03 2020 at 17:02):
its not, it was a tedious process for me too to convert the existing content to the table and the presentation to the reader is worse. all that wasted white space for the first column crowds all the content. If you don't have a wide screen you are stuck scrolling.
Josh Mandel (Dec 15 2020 at 18:48):
This is still causing a lot of trouble for me; the SMART v2 track has a hard-to-recognize URL (https://confluence.hl7.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=97459091) and the content is not visible within my screen's viewport). I basically need to create a separate doc if I want to show this to people. For the next connectathon can we please go back to the old way, or else fix this?
Josh Mandel (Dec 15 2020 at 18:49):
As a reminder, the issue is that 1/3 of the screen is taken up by an extra column of headers, and the other 2/3 of the screen doesn't wrap:
David Hay (Dec 16 2020 at 05:50):
hey Josh - I'm not really seeing this - agree that the url is not descriptive (but does that really matter?) - but there's minimal sideways scrolling needed, and I can always move the divider to the left a bit...
Josh Mandel (Dec 16 2020 at 17:43):
I see so much sidways scrolling that it's unusable.
Lloyd McKenzie (Dec 16 2020 at 18:06):
May be a resolution thing. I get no horizontal scroll bar at all when my browser is full screen. Perhaps we need to change the table so it's not fixed width? @Sandra Vance
Eric Haas (Dec 17 2020 at 18:43):
IMO This is a massive step in the wrong direction. It looks bad and is a disservice to the reader and as Josh pointed extra effort for the author. Should really evaluate the cost/benefits here

@Corey Smith it appears that this has been resolved. Please confirm.
Josh Mandel (Dec 18 2020 at 14:43):
Not resolved for me. I'm not seeing what changed though, so if you are able to do before and after screenshots that might help me figure out where to focus on suggestions.
Corey Smith (Dec 21 2020 at 17:43):
@Sandra Vance I think I got pulled into a different thread that is unrelated to Josh's issue. My issue related to deleting a Connectathon 26 stream has been resolved. Thank you.
