I've been reviewing the v2 to FHIR mapping worksheets (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PaFYPSSq4oplTvw_4OgOn6h2Bs_CMvCAU9CqC4tPBgk/edit#gid=1930219638) and it seems that the mappings are to at least HL7 v2.7 because of the PRT segments. What is the recommendation of the v2-to-FHIR team for systems which have v2.3 or v2.5.1? Are these mappings backwards-compatible with both versions or is it expected that source systems support at minimum v2.7?

The v2-to-FHIR mapping is meant to be cumulative. Even if a field is deprecated, the spot is still there effectively. As soon as v2.9 is published, we will cover through that. But somebody using a v2.2 or 2.3.1 message would still be able to use this as all the slots are still there and we plan to map everything that is in use somewhere.
