There isn't yet. What's the use-case for capturing it? What's the value set it should be drawn from?

Hi Maria, we've started a discussion of this topic at the Canadian FHIR Solution Architecture meeting earlier today. The plan is to nail down the requirements of various projects and jurisdictions. As a starting point from the vocabulary perspective, we plan to use the Ethnic Group hierarchy from the Canadian SNOMED CT Editions and Canadian EthnicityCode ValueSet

If it's not being used for demographic reporting purposes (e.g. the primary reason for capture is for clinical/genetic purposes), then it really should be captured as an Observation, not an extension on Patient.

The use case we've seen so far is about demographic purpose to identify if a client is an of an indian, inuit ir or metis status or a combination of any of these, e.g. inuit & metis.

Ok. An extension for that purpose makes sense - should it be narrower in scope than race & ethnicity? And do we need both of those?

Hi Igor: Wonder if there's a Canadian Ethnicity Code valueset being established? This is to apply in use case for patient's demographic purposes.

Hi Maria, we haven't made much progress on this yet. I believe we've been waiting for the requirements from BC as this is the only Canadian jurisdiction that needs to implement ethnicity codes.
