Topic: language for coding/display
Marc de Graauw (Oct 28 2019 at 09:40):
Do we have any policy (in MedMij for instance) for the preferred language in coding/display?
In a random example on simplifier I find a rather ad hoc collection of Dutch and English displays:
<display value="Amyotrofe laterale sclerose" /> <display value="Presbycusis (disorder)" /> <display value="Proximal" /> <display value="Afgedopt" /> <display value="Ziekenhuis" />
(All the English examples do have Dutch translations, and at least some of the Dutch examples have English translations, so the choice seems really random.)
My preference would be to use Dutch, since one possible use case for coding/display is showing display value to the user in systems that do not have access to a terminology server for translation - and that is problematic if the display is not available in the local language, especially in patient-oriented systems. Anyway, a random mix does not seem a good idea.
Alexander Henket (Oct 28 2019 at 14:39):
- Any display from the underlying code system is valid. Dutch is preferred where available
- New displays may become available after creation of an example. This may explain language variation
- Examples are never normative
