I couldn't find guidance on the rules of reprofiling pattern. If i have profile A defining a system on code (e.g. loinc), can the derived profile B "overwrite" the pattern to: system=loinc, code=1234-5 ?

sort of. you can further constrain or further slice. but you can't undo what is siad

thanks grahame. Thats what i expected. Maybe i missed the guidance, if not i'd like to add an issue to add this guidance.
