Is there some reason that the valid types aren't defined for minValue[x] and maxValue[x]? The description lists the "allowed types", but the type is still "*".

From the definition:
The minimum allowed value for the element. The value is inclusive. This is allowed for the types date, dateTime, instant, time, decimal, integer, and Quantity.
